Episode 7: Rootdown Radio #3
Happy 2011! We made it! A huge thanks to all of you out there who've been supporting the podcast by downloading, subscribing, re-Tweeting, or otherwise spreading the word. I truly appreciate it.
This latest installment features highlights from my third episode as fill-in host for ROOTDOWN RADIO that was recorded for Scion back in 2009 while regular host (Miles Tackett of Breakestra fame) was on tour. The show kicks off with a short set of grimy fuzz funk, blues, & some classic Jimi Hendrix (and that's just in the first 5 minutes). From there, I go into a mix of classic and recent funky soul treats, followed by some Afrobeat and a couple of my all time favorite Latin bangers. The show closes out with a criminally slept on joint from the infamous Los Angeles soul collective, The Rebirth, which coincidentally features the final vocal performance from longtime mainstay Noelle Scaggs before leaving the group to collaborate with the LA-based funk-pop collective Fitz & The Tantrums.
Occasional turntablism ensues throughout. Lots to love in this one. Enjoy!
